Why the Extra Zero

Why the Extra Zero was added to the Roulette Wheel

As a result of the magnanimous growth in popularity of the Roulette game, casino owners saw it fit to add an extra zero in one of the sections of the Roulette wheel so as to better the odds of the house. After adding the zero section, odds of the player hitting the number went from 1 out of 36 to 1 out of 37. On realizing this, casino owners around the US included an additional section with a double zero. Thus the same roulette had the single zero of the original roulette, then the newly added double zero. The odds of the house bettered even further over time: 1 out of 38. It is claimed that the picture of an American eagle was at times put in the place of the double zero in earlier versions of the American Roulette wheel.

The American roulette is a game that is based on an individual’s chance and luck. Although to some the game seems rather complicated, it is a game full of excitement and intrigue. The game is all about the numbered slots on the roulette wheel and a ball that bounces against the direction of the wheel as it spins till it stops at one of the sections.

There are 38 slots on the American roulette wheel, that is, the numbers from 1 to 36, then the zero and double zero section. The thirty six sections have the colours red and black which alternate one after the other, then the zero and double zero compartments are coloured green. To win in the game, the player has to foretell where the ball will stop. Players may choose to place their bets on one number, a group of numbers, and the colour of a section or whether the winning number will be an odd or an even number.
